History of Bread World Mission
The founder of the World Evangelistic Mission is Rev. Dr. Chiu Sai Kwong. The Mission is a branch of the Hong Kong Ling Bread Church founded by Rev. Chiu. The church office is located in the Lau Mei Hin Secondary School of the Ling Bread Church in Tai Po, and Sunday worship and church gatherings are held in the school.
In 1942, Rev. Zhao Shiguang founded the "Ling Bread Church" in Shanghai, and subsequently established branches in Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Suzhou, and opened seminaries, Bible schools, middle schools, orphanages, and kindergartens. In 1945, when the Sino-Japanese War was about to end, Rev. Zhao established the "Ling Bread World Evangelistic Association". In 1949, Rev. Zhao went south to Hong Kong and initially held a revival evangelistic meeting in the Central Entertainment Theater. In 1951, a new church was built on Grampian Road in Kowloon City, which was the "Kowloon Ling Bread Church". Evangelistic meetings were held for 100 consecutive days, and the gospel ministry developed greatly. Eight years later, the new church on Leighton Road in Causeway Bay was completed and named "Hong Kong Ling Bread Church". The dedication ceremony was held on May 31, 1959. Hong Kong Ling Bread Church has been actively carrying out evangelism for decades and has become a missionary base in Hong Kong and overseas.
After Rev. Zhao Shiguang, the following pastors have successively served as the head pastor of this church: Rev. Xuan Shaozeng, Rev. Tong Yuehan, Rev. Zhou Zhupei, Rev. Zhang Tonghua, Rev. Cai Zhentang, Rev. Wu Fumin, Rev. Liu Zhiliang, Rev. Lu Jianmin, Rev. Chen Dingbang. Hong Kong Ling Bian Church has established branches in various places in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories. Adhering to the mission of "going to all the world to preach the gospel to all nations and to establish the church of Christ", the Hong Kong Ling Bread Church has never stopped its tradition of sponsoring and sending missionaries since the Hong Kong and Kowloon Ling Bread Churches were managed separately. The missionaries' fields are found in Asia, Africa, Europe and America. In 1993, the first short-term missionary team was sent out, with a team of 17 people, to cooperate with the DJK Ling Bread Church to go to Pontianak and Singkawang in Indonesia for short-term missions. Since then, the Hong Kong Ling Bread Church has sent short-term missionary teams to various parts of Asia every year, hoping to stimulate the believers' sense of mission and commit to the missionary cause through direct missionary experience. In addition, the Hong Kong Ling Bread Church also opened a school to provide high-quality holistic education for schoolchildren of appropriate age and cultivate students to live out the Christian life.
The schools currently in operation include: Ling Bread Church Lau Mei Xuan Secondary School, Ling Bread Church Yi Wen Secondary School, Ma On Shan Ling Bread Primary School, Ling Bread Church Sau Tak Primary School, as well as kindergartens and nurseries in six different districts. The current site of the Hong Kong Ling Bread Church Kindergarten was once a primary school, while the Kowloon Ling Bread Primary School, Ling Bread English Evening School and Cheung Sha Wan Ling Bread Church located in Yuen Chau Street Estate, Kowloon were closed in 1993 due to the reconstruction of the housing estate. Hong Kong Ling Bread Church is a member church of the "Christian Ling Bread World Evangelistic Association Union", and the member churches of the union are spread across the United States, Canada, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and other places.
